How often should a LEV System be Checked and Who Should Check it?
The emphasis on health and safety in the workplace has never been greater, with business owners now taking extra steps to ensure they can provide a workplace that is safe for their employees and free from risks.
If you an employer and your employees are working in an environment where they are exposed to airborne contaminants such as dust, welding fumes and vapours then you would have likely had a LEV system installed to conform with COSHH and the Health and Safety at work Act.
However, many employers out there think that by having a LEV system installed in place is the solution and that it can be left to its own devices to do its job – this is not the case. As LEV systems are designed to protect workers health, they must be checked and tested regularly in order to maintain its efficiency and still working as effectively as originally intended and is helping to protect your employees.
How often should a LEV system be checked and tested?
COSHH regulations state that most LEV systems should be periodically and thoroughly tested at least once in every 14 months.
Who should check and test it?
The test should be carried out by someone with specialist knowledge of LEV systems. This is usually a person who works with LEV systems daily, such as a LEV systems supplier or engineer.
Did you know that we offer LEV testing? We provide a thorough examination and test (TExT) of your LEV system. This will ensure that companies comply with their legal obligation to test their LEV systems at least once in every 12-14-month period.
What will the test entail?
A thorough visual and structural examination of the extraction system will be carried out to ensure that it is in efficient working order and air flow will be tested to determine that the system is adequately removing contaminants from the air.
Is that it?
No. You must keep proof that your LEV system has been tested and passed on file for a minimum of 5 years. The engineer who carries out the test will provide you with a test report that you can keep demonstrating that the LEV system passed the test.
